Since I started my new program, I’ve been building up the mileage very slowly. The graph below is taken from my RunningAhead profile:
As you can see I’m trying to be very disciplined in building the mileage, I really don’t want to induce another injury. Having said that, the ankle is feeling great, so I’m hoping to kick it up a notch soon.
I’m 3 weeks into my new “running” program, and all is well. Except for the treadmill part, I’m ecstatic to be running again. Comrades 2008 seems so far away, yet I can smell that finish already.
Here’s the dirt:

So looking back at the week, the 30 minute run on Saturday is definitely a milestone. However, my ankle isn’t perfect yet, but it’s stable, and there’s no pain, just discomfort, which I’m told is normal. My HR is relatively low, but from looking at last year, my HR was always higher when running on a treadmill.
In other news, I’m off to see my orthopaedic surgeon for a final consultation and a stress view x-ray tomorrow. Basically, they pull the ankle apart, while taking an x-ray, to try and see how it reacts under stress. I’m confident all should be fine, wish me luck.
I’m bored of the treadmill.
I’m tired of running in one place, and not actually going anywhere.
I’m tired of the music they play.
Hopefully it won’t be long before I can breathe fresh mountain air while running.
So my “training” for the past week (18/6 to 24/6) has gone well. I’m increasing the distance and time run slowly, and had my longest run yet on Saturday morning. It’s taking me 15 minutes just to get enjoying a run, so I’m only starting to really enjoy my runs now. Even if they are only on a treadmill.

I also started to leave my ankle brace at home, as was told my ankle is stable enough, and the treadmill is a very safe environment for me to run. It’s difficult to turn an ankle over on the treadmill. I also had a nice cycle on Friday evening. Nothing too hectic, just some fresh air.
Overall, I’m happy with my progress, although I can’t wait until I’m able to do a long run, or even some speed work.
Wow, I haven’t done this in a while, I actually have some running to report back on. The goal of this last week, was to slowly increase the amount of running on the treadmill, and go do my strength workouts at least 3 times. I was also planning on getting some cycling done, weather depending.
So here’s how my “running” went:

The runs all went well, ankle held up fine, but I did run every one with my ankle brace. I have to wear it for at least another 3 months, while running. On Friday, I got my 1 cycle in, and it was marvelous. Running on a treadmill just doesn’t compare to fresh air. I can’t wait to be able to run outside, at a faster pace than 6min/km.
I forgot to add that I did some spinning, on Tuesday and Thursday. About 70 minutes in total. I don’t like to talk about spinning, so that is all.
