Time Trial Progress

I’ve recently started using a new running log site called RunningAHEAD, as it has some excellent tools like a Google Maps mashup to measure your runs. You can also publish your profile, so anyone can read it. Check mine out here. The tool gives some great graph, and I particularly like the search function. After entering all my past data, I ran a search for 5km time trials I have run this year:

Date Time Avg HR
31 May 19:31 182
21 June 19:07 182
2 Aug 18:45 182
16 Aug 18:41 182
20 Sept 18:08 181
1 Nov 18:33 183
15 Nov 18:02 178

So in 6 months, I’ve knocked nearly 90 seconds off my time trial PB. What is more significant for me, is that my average heart rate has been very constant, and even dropped by 3 beats on the last run!. The 1st of November was a very warm day, and this could have caused the slight increase in my average HR. My PB run two weeks ago was very encouraging, and with my Avg HR being the lowest ever for a time trial, I’m very sure I could have cracked 18 minutes had I paced myself correctly and been able to finish a little stronger.

Results like this have a huge effect on my motivation (not that I’m lacking in it), as it proves I’m on the right track.
