After getting my 5km time down to a respectable 18:50, I thought it time to attempt the 8km time trial. The longer distance is sure to increase stamina etc for longer races, while still improving my leg speed. As of yesterday, I was still undecided, so I posted a question to the always helpful Runner’s World forum, about time trials and got some interesting responses.
Maussie’s idea was a great one. The idea is to run the same time for the same distance, and then to determine whether your fitness is improving, you simply analyse your heart rate. Since I have just bought myself a Polar S625X, this is a brilliant excuse to use the excellent data that the watch provides.
For me personally though, I like the idea of pushing myself to the limit, so I might not use the method that Maussie suggested on time trials, rather keeping time trials for my little excuse for some speed. The sea point boulevard offers a great run, with markers, so I might just use it there.
Anyway, I ran the 8km time trial for the first time last night, and to my surprise, I really enjoyed it, and ran a 31:58, a time I’m quite proud of.
